Background
For over two decades, the School of Engineering's Division of
Continuing Education has offered engineering license examination review
courses. Not only do we offer a course for the fundamentals of engineering
(engineering-in-training) exam, but we also offer discipline-specific
review courses (Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical) for the professional
engineering exam.
In order to hold the title of "Professional Engineer",
individuals must take two exams; the FE exam and a discipline-specific
examination. Typically, college seniors and recent college grads take the
FE exam which is held twice yearly in October and April. Once an
individual passes the FE exam, he/she will work as an engineer for a
specified period of time (this time varies from discipline to discipline,
but it is generally 4-5 years). After this "probation" period has been
completed, an individual can sit for the PE exam. For up-to-date
information about exams, dates and fees, please click on the "FE/PE Exam
Applications, Dates, and Fees" link located on our homepage.
Please note that it is your responsibility to register for the
exam.
The review courses are designed to help engineers prepare for the
FE and PE examinations. The courses provide a comprehensive review of
basic and advanced concepts, theories and applications with emphasis on
problems. Solving problems and test-taking strategies will be an
integral
part of the courses. The National Council for Engineering and Surveying
(NCEES) prepares the FE(EIT) and PE examinations which are administered by
each State Board. The national examination is used in all states and
territories, including the District of Columbia. We use only the latest
review textbooks in all of our courses.
All of our FE/PE courses are taught by professional engineers many
of whom have taught for Engineering Continuing Education for more than a
decade. Course fees for all engineering continuing education
classes include handouts and a parking
permit that will allow you to park near your classroom. Students will
purchase their textbooks, at a discount, at PPI whose website is
located at http://ppipartner.com/XA046. All of our courses
meet in the evenings on either the Douglass Campus or Busch
Campus of Rutgers University located in New Brunswick/Piscataway, New
Jersey. Students who take an EIT/FE or PE course but who do not pass
the FE or PE exam can take the course again at no charge
provided that seats are available in future classes.
Course Cancellation and Refund Policy
We have minimum registration requirements that
must be met in order for a course to be offered. This information is
located within the course description section of this website. If we
must cancel a course due to low
enrollment or other extraordinary circumstances (e.g. lack of
instructors), we will notify you immediately as well as refund
your money in full.
If you register for a course and cancel your registration before
the first day of class, we will refund your tuition in full. You will
receive an 80% refund if you drop the course before the second session
of the course. No refunds are given if you drop the course
thereafter.
Returned Check Policy
If your check is returned to us for non-payment, you must replace that
check with a Money Order or Cashier's Check made payable to Rutgers
University for the amount of the check plus a $50.00 service
fee.
Late Registration Policy
Students who choose to register for our classes after the
registration deadline must come to our office with their completed
applications and checks for tuition. At that time, they will receive our
welcome packet, and a parking pass. Our office is
open Mondays to Fridays from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
Students may not enroll in a course after the first week of
classes.
Weather, Instructor Illness
Sometimes we are forced to cancel a class session due to weather or
instructor illness.
In the
event that this happens, we will contact you by e-mail by 4:00 p.m. on
the
day of the scheduled class. We will schedule a make-up class. However,
due to university space constraints, we may be forced to offer that
make-up class on a different evening or even on a Saturday or Sunday
(during the day) and in a different classroom location at Rutgers
University.
Occasionally, in courses that are taught by multiple instructors (e.g.
EIT/FE and Civil), we may be forced to change
the order of course topics due to instructor illness or other unforeseen
circumstance.
